Wildfires play a key role in Mediterranean landscape, modelling vegetation, soils and geomorphological processes. Prescribed burning is a useful tool for soil scientists studying the effects of wildfires on soil properties, as it allows for data collection before and immediately following burning, making easy experimental design.
